Unit 9 - Momentum

To be learned at a future time! I could see momentum tying together many of the concepts previously learned.

Main goal(s): to teach conservation of momentum (and impulse- how force over time changes momentum). Beginning unit outline:
-Momentum lab: doing data collection on each an "explosion" with two stationary cars moving away from each other, or an inelastic collision with a moving car colliding with a stationary car and they stick together. An online version car also be done using the collision carts from physics classroom.com (http://www.physicsclassroom.com/Physics-Interactives/Momentum-and-Collisions/Collision-Carts/Collision-Carts-Interactive). Students collect data on velocity and mass of the cars. They then compare momentum before and after as well as momentum changes of each car.
-Momentum collision practice problems: "exploding" examples, inelastic examples with objects sticking together after, and elastic examples (one object moving or two objects moving initially).
-Review
-Test
